Who is it for?

This is a two-day regional training for staff new to teaching the Fresh Start programme. It is also for reading tutors or reading leaders seeking a refresher.

There is a discounted rate for schools with a Phonics or a Fresh Start Training Package: £260.00 + VAT per person for two-days’ training (reduction of £60.00). The discount will appear once you review your booking.

Please note films from the Online Subscription are used throughout. The Online Subscription is only available alongside trainer support as part of an RMT Training Package

How does it help?

Learn step-by-step how to teach the Fresh Start programme and have the most impact.

Training focuses on how to teach older students to read sounds and words, then how to apply this phonic knowledge to the reading and writing activities in the Modules.

The training:

  • teaches the Read Write Inc. routines and how to use them consistently so students understand what is expected of them and can get straight to the learning
  • helps everyone understand the processes that underpin learning to read and write – vital for secondary teachers who may not have had previous experience of phonics
  • demonstrates each step, both live in the session and through in-action films. This gives you experience of a wide range of contexts
  • practises each step in detail so you build your expertise and confidence in delivering the programme with fidelity
  • gives you on the spot coaching from your trainer for immediate impact
  • supports you in making decisions about timetabling, with flexible options to make the programme work for you.

2-day training at a local venue. This does not include access to the online subscription or in-school support. If you are looking to train a large number of staff and want access to the online subscription, please complete the booking form for our in-school support packages.

Read Write Inc. Phonics regional trainings are suitable for new teachers or those needing a ‘refresher’ in your school.

Who is it for?

For Reception and Year 1 teachers who are using the Talk Through Stories resources. Teachers with pupils who don’t come from a language-rich home find this training particularly useful.

How does it help?

This creative and thought-provoking day helps you get the most out of the programme, building a love of stories through talk. This training:

  • gives you confidence by showing how the programme matches the speech and vocabulary requirements in the DfE Reading Framework
  • models great practice throughout – how to prepare and bring a story to life and how to use talk to develop children’s understanding of new vocabulary
  • provides plenty of opportunity to practise and share experiences with others, along with expert coaching for immediate impact
  • supports with classroom management routines so every child feels secure and can concentrate on the activities
  • shares a variety of timetabling options, including how to create your own timetable and customise plans to bring your creativity to the programme.

The day ends with an opportunity to devise a personal plan for your school so you are ready to hit the ground running on your return. Delegates leave passionate about Storytime and determined to make a difference to their school and their children.

Who is it for?

Ideal training for teachers whose children have completed Read Write Inc. Phonics and are moving onto the Comprehension programme alongside class and independent reading.

How does it help?

This training supports you in teaching the Comprehension programme, with a focus on inspiring a love of reading. This training:

  • refreshes your knowledge of the Read Write Inc. routines so you can get straight to the teaching. This gives children a head start with fluency and Comprehension
  • practises in detail each step and your trainer will coach you on the spot for immediate impact. It is the fidelity to each step that builds children’s confidence and ability to tackle longer texts.
  • helps you inspire children to keep reading. Live modelling and in-action films build your skills in using the programme to breathe life into the texts
  • supports you in making decisions about timetabling, with flexible options to make the programme work for you
  • includes recommendations for class and independent reading along with strategies to inspire your children to want to keep reading.
Who is it for?

Reading Leaders, reading tutors, SENCOs and SEND tutors in mainstream and special schools. This training brings everyone into the same ‘lane’ to give the consistency that we know works.

How does it help?

All children can learn to read – if we do the right things. You will come away from this training with the tools to teach those children needing the most support from the start, getting every child reading.

This practical, hands-on training:

  • supports you in analysing your own data to identify pupils for tutoring, so you can act on insights to accelerate all pupils’ progress from the start
  • gives you lots of practice using our incremental teaching steps in the Phonics Tutoring Handbook. Includes coaching from the trainer for immediate impact
  • shows you how to use in-action films to teach children with a range of needs
  • focuses on how you can use the steps to make adjustments for each pupil’s individual needs
  • supports in organising timetabling and resourcing – there is a solution for every context
  • gives you opportunity to discuss the pupils who need extra help in your school.

Let us help you go beyond the need and teach every child to read.

*To tutor back in school, you will need to have bought your resources. You will also need access to the Read Write Inc. One-to-one Tutoring Handbook available on Phonics Online on Oxford Owl.
